Foundation Kick-Off and Memorial Tree Planting
May 6, 2009

Inspired by Tammy's selflessness and desire to help others, Tammy's family launched the Tammy D. Martin Trips, Dreams, and Memories Foundation on May 6, 2009.

Memorial Tree Planting
The ceremony began with the planting of a memorial tree in Hawthorne Park in Grand Junction. The family selected Hawthorne Park because it held special memories. Hawthorne Park had been a place of celebration for Tammy and her family for many years - from birthdays to Mother's Day and Father's Day to summer BBQs.

The family selected an ash tree because Tammy would have loved the vibrant red, orange, and yellow leaves in the fall. At the base of the tree a marble plaque reads "In Loving Memory - Tammy D. Martin - Trips, Dreams, and Memories Foundation."

Foundation Kick-Off
Following the memorial tree planting, Tammy's husband Burke Martin, Board Vice-President opened with a prayer. Tammy's sisters, Teresa Black, Board Secretary/Treasurer, and Melissa Bashara, Board President, explained the mission, purpose, and vision for the Tammy D. Martin Trips, Dreams, & Memories Foundation to a crowd of family and friends.

Also in attendance were Tammy's children - Erin and Connor Martin; Doris Cross, Tammy's grandmother; Richard and Kathy Martin, Burke's parents; SueAnn Stoneburner, Burke's sister; and the remaining Founding Board members - Suzanne and Dennis Overholt, Tammy's mother and step-father; Debbie Meshishnek, Tammy's aunt; and Kirk Black and Matt Bashara, Tammy's brothers-in-law.
